How to Create a Home Spa Day for Mothers

What you need for your home spa day depends on just what you want to pamper yourself with. If you want to concentrate on the in-spa experience, then essential ingredients may include bath oil or bath salts, or other essential oils of your choice. You will also need moisturizers and body oils for afterwards. Foot balm and hand moisturizer will be a little different from the lotions you get for your body and face, as the skin is thinner and softer on the face, but harder on the feet.

 

If you wish to include facials, pedicure and manicure your ingredients will differ again. A facial can use any variety of fruit or vegetable for a cleansing, toning effect. Mashed cucumber, tomatoes and strawberries are good for oily skin, while peaches and avocados are better for dry to normal skin.

 

You may like to purchase clay ingredients that harden on the face to stimulate, rejuvenate and help clear up pimples and acne, or you could use soft creams and gels. A variety of essential oils and plain spring water will help to blend the ingredients. Green clay is the most popular clay mask, being suitable for all skin types. White Kaolin and Fuller’s Earth are the other two types of clay masks, the latter being more suitable for normal to oily skins.

 

If you want to make your own facial masks, you will need to purchase the clay and other ingredients and have an assortment of wide-topped jars to store the finished product in. A wooden spoon to blend the ingredients is also a good idea. 3 tsp of corn flour mixed with 2 0z of green clay will start off your basic clay mask. Then you can add other suitable ingredients to it.

 

Stretching and workout videos or DVDs can also play a part in your home spa day. Even busy mums can find that not all the right muscles get exercised.  A gentle workout will help to stretch your muscles and make you feel good, especially if you have a sit-down job. Then you can soothe those newly stretched muscles in the spa when you’ve finished. To help you relax, watch a just-for-fun movie while waiting for that special manicure to dry.

 

But don’t forget some of your favorite music to listen to whilst you stretch out in the spa, or maybe you’d prefer to read a magazine or book. Whichever you choose, it will need to be kept on hand. However, forget MP3 players or headphones as they can be ruined if you drop them in the tub.
